At any successful airshow, the aircraft may be the stars of the sky — but professional sound and commentary are what truly connect the crowd to the action. Clear, reliable audio and knowledgeable presenters can transform an ordinary flying display into a memorable aviation experience for thousands of spectators.![]()
Professional commentary plays a critical role in keeping the audience informed and engaged throughout the day. Many spectators may not know the difference between aircraft types, display manoeuvres, or the history behind certain pilots and teams. A skilled commentator adds context, excitement, and storytelling that helps the public better appreciate what they are watching in the air.![]()
Sound systems are equally important. At large venues, poor audio can quickly lead to confusion, missed safety announcements, and frustrated spectators. High-quality sound coverage ensures that important information reaches the crowd clearly — whether it is programme updates, emergency instructions, weather notices, or general event communication. In a fast-moving airshow environment, effective communication contributes directly to smooth crowd management and public safety.![]()
Professional commentary teams also help maintain energy between flying displays. Airshows naturally have pauses for aircraft repositioning, refuelling, or safety checks. Experienced presenters keep the atmosphere alive by sharing aviation stories, pilot interviews, sponsor information, and educational insights that keep spectators entertained and involved throughout the event.![]()
Behind the scenes, professional audio teams work closely with organisers, airshow directors, safety officials, and pilots to ensure seamless coordination from start to finish. Their role is far bigger than simply speaking into a microphone.![]()
In South Africa, companies such as Capital Sounds have become a preferred choice at many aviation events, known for delivering professional sound solutions and experienced commentary that enhance both safety and the overall spectator experience. CAPITAL SOUNDS are also our preferred team. ![]()
A great airshow is not only seen — it is heard, understood, and experienced.

As always, we recommend checking back regularly for the latest updates before making travel plans, as dates and programs can still change.![]()
Despite the small changes, there’s still plenty of exciting aviation action ahead for the rest of the year!
Airshows usually last most of the day, so it’s a good idea to bring along camping chairs and/or a blanket so you can relax comfortably during the event. Dressing in layers is also recommended, as mornings can be cool, temperatures warm up during the day, and it may become cooler again later in the afternoon.![]()
Try to pack as lightly as possible, as airshows often involve long walks between the parking areas and the crowd line. Many of the larger airshows offer park-and-ride facilities, and some Gauteng airshows also partner with the Gautrain to help visitors travel to and from the show more easily and conveniently.
